Liero Xtreme
From Liero Wiki
Liero Xtreme (sometimes called Liero Extreme or LieroX). It is an unofficial sequel to Liero. It was the first Liero sequel with real-time netplay and features: computer AI opponents and fully custom weapons, levels and characters. It is arguably the most popular of Liero clones and it's easy to find someone to play with over the Internet. Liero Xtreme is created by Jason JasonB Boettcher, an Australian programmer. It is written in C++.

Controversy
Liero Xtreme has been often criticized by original Liero fans for using different from original physics and having a community where the average player has little or no english skills. This has spawned quite a lot of flamewars on #liero, #lierox and the GU forums.
Development
Jason Boettcher has stopped the development on LieroX in 2006 and released the source code under the Open Source licence zlib. Some other developers have continued the development (OpenLieroX project) under the Open Source licence LGPL and it's still under heavy development (state: June 2009). It has gotten a lot more features since then and is available for Linux, Windows and MacOSX.
