Where
Hyperm33t 2007 took place in Warsaw, Poland on August 10-12. The Warsaw Hyperm33t was organised by Wei-Zhi-Hui and Greybrow.
Attending Hyperm33t
- Hyperm33t 2007 was of course completely free. Accommodation, food and sightseeing expenses was paid at peoples own expense. Eating food however, was not mandatory. Rooms were reserved at Hotel Vera for those who reported interest.
Candidate cities
- Warsaw (SELECTED)
- Kraków/Katowice (ELIMINATED)
- Gdansk (ELIMINATED)
- Wrocław (ELIMINATED)
(non-Polish cities were ruled out)
Advantages of a Polish city was the low costs in living. Food and housing is ridiculously cheaper than in western Europe.
Day plans for Hyperm33t 07
Day 1 (Friday Aug. 10)
This was, just like in Brussels, the arrival day. There was no substantial Liero playing on Friday, just relaxation, getting to know each other (for those who don't already know the others). Arriving on this day was not mandatory, but recommended for those who don't just come for the playing of Liero. Some trouble was raised by the delayed flight of Jonny and the horrible raining.
Day 2 (Saturday Aug. 11)
Day 2 started off with a survey of the city, which was rather disrupted due to the raining. Instead, quite a lot of time was spent in the hotel, compared to the previous year. All the better we said, and Liero was played all night long. The tournament itself started about 6 PM and lasted all night. The winner was Biernath_John.
Day 3 (Sunday Aug. 12)
One by one, everyone went home without problems, except Jonny who was once more trapped in the claws of KLM and didnt come home until noon the next day. A nice 20 hour trip for him.

Good to know about Poland
- Prices are still relatively low. The currency is Złoty (PLN). 1 zl. = 0.25 Euro. The modern złoty is subdivided into 100 groszy (singular: grosz, alternate plural form: grosze).
- Beer in a pub costs between 3 and 6 zl. Less in supermarkets.
- You can easily eat more than enough for less than 20 zl in any respectable restaurant. (This is true for a given values of "more than enough" and "respectable" - barnex)
- Public transport is a lot cheaper than in wester european countries, but the service offered reflects the price.
- Warsaw airport is called Frederic Chopin Airport (formerly Okęcie International Airport).
- Warsaw is the capital of Poland and has roughly 2-3 million inhabitants. (Wikipedia)
Summary
The Liero World Champion tournament was played as planned with 17 players starting in 4 groups of 4 each, and one with 5. Two from each group advanced to the playoffs as quarter finalists. Both groups and quarter finalist opponents were drawn randomly (by the hands of EdgeCrusher and Vugie).
Apart from Liero, we visited the Museum of Warsaw Uprising and endured rain and lots of heat. The hotel was nice and we recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Warsaw.
