Hi

I posted on Linux Game Tome about Gusanos, i thought that such a great game as Gusanos should be listed there http://www.happypenguin.org/show?Gusanos#comments

However one of the topics that came up was if Gusanos was in violation of GPL and the homepage of Gusanos clearly states that it is released under the GPL.

The problem is that the commercial libraries zoidcom and fmod are dynamically linked to gusanos.

I found this http://www.oslawblog.com/2005/01/dynamic-linking-gpl-and-lgpl.html which clearly states that dynamic linking of zoidcom and fmod requires them to be gpl compatible i.e. make the source available which is not the case http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#TOCMoneyGuzzlerInc

What are your thoughts regarding the license? is this a valid issue?

basara's stance about that is a bit strange, he is like "i don't mind which license gusanos is under". so i guess the "official" license just will change to something else. the only reference to GPL is gusanos.sf.net, sf.net/projects/gusanos doesn't state it, and neither do the source files anyway.

btw, welcome to comser forums nickem Smiley

Thanks  Grin

Ok, perhaps a BSD style license would be more appropriate?

i'm not the right person to ask, it's completly gliptic's and basara's decision oob.
gliptic won't be back until some days, and basara sometimes said something about a "pirateware" license, which was like "do whatever you want"  Grin

NickeM: Thanks for making a package, it's really nice. Maybe it should be mirrored though, rapidshare is very annoying.

oobviously i'll upload it, but some questions before, is it really gus .9c(checked out from cvs with a timestamp from about it's time of release), or is it newest cvs?
if the latter it's not possible to play with people using .9c over network afaik.

and another thing, why is it 40mb large? even the windows binary version which includes every dependency itself(which shouldn't be done in a .deb imo) is only about 6mb large.

thanks for your effort, just want to have that type of stuff sorted out before  Smiley

It is not the latest CVS can't remember the actual builddate but i haven't had any problems connecting to servers except when the map versions doesn't match.

The large size is becuase of all the different mods i have added such as darkarts, doom, laserarena, etc. i have also included the power magazine no 1-4 + some xtra maps.

I have made some corrections to several mods since they don't work "out of the box" for linux, CAPS on extensions, missing files etc.
