Hi everyone,
Are there any plans to get rid of those nonfree libraries (zoidcom/fmod)?
There are free alternatives, for example GNet, OpenTNL, SDL_Net and OpenAL.
That would make things a lot easier.

there is a plan to drop zoidcom in favor for a selfwritten library afaik.
about fmod, basara insists that gusanos needs 3d sounds with multiple listeners(for splitscreen) which knocks out other libraries like openal.

What about providing an alternative, a compile flag which makes it possible to compile Gusanos with OpenAL for example? That would make things a lot easier in the Linux world (me Wink).

About Zoidcom, that's great! So only one library to go Grin.

The zoidcom thing is not necesarily true tbh.
The sound system is quite small and wrapedish so it woulnt be too hard to provide an openAL compile option.

If Gusanos didn't use zoidcom (and used an open source alternative) installing gusanos with an "emerge gusanos" or "apt-get gusanos" would be pretty awesome

well, i'll do an archlinux PKGBUILD for gusanos maybe, because i already maintain the zoidcom PKGBUILD for it (no license problems, as the PKGBUILD is only a script which downloads the library from the official site).

"emerge gusanos" would be my case. Yes, that would be cool.

the zoidcom licence does not restrict ebuilds for zoidcom, so what's the problem?

I've almost completed converting fmod into OpenAL. tested on Linux and works ok. Let me know if anyone is interested in the patch against 0.9c.

Wow, cool. Basara, come and get it. So there is in fact only Zoidcom left. Shocked

No, getting commercial stuff into portage is not the problem, but an open-source project using closed source stuff is not the nice way to do things. Just keep the stuff open.

moHiJ, you have to know sharkyx is the creator of zoidcom; a discussion about that should get a new thread maybe, because i guess it'll get long Wink
