Well, if they think it's the finished game then they will play it and if they don't like it they probably wont play it ever again. If they know it's only for developers atm then they might try it again when public is released.

I agree with Jonny, "beta" has often come to imply an almost finished product that's very close to the final version. Hell, Gmail is beta.

Hmm, so will I have to change the controls in a text file somewhere then or with commands in the console? I'm kinda new to this obviously. So I think I'm understanding, there won't be a menu option for control changing but you can do it somewhere else, correct? Wouldn't it be easier, and less confusing to players to add a simple thing ingame to change controls?
How complete will the beta be, like will the final version come out a year later, a month later, etc, I'm excited from all thsi information I've seen, and I can't wait to jump in and frag some of my friends.

Currently, you must edit default/user.cfg to change your controls, name and color. it will be done from the gui when gliptic has done a way of saving such things through gui.

Full version wont come out a year later, but not a month later either. ETA is 2 months or so.

Will I be punished when I play the beta? Maybe you should call it Gusanos Beta Beta. Or Gusanos - Don't Play This version/edition.
Actually I cba either, Ill play it anyway. I might even try modding

Well, I play Gusanos and LOSP and I think there are not in their last versions a nice GUI to configure controls, choose your profile, levels or mods (I do that with some scripts .BAT). Will the next Gusanos .9 Beta correct these problems?

Menu right now only has join/host and IRC.
Mods and levels can be accessed through the console.

And btw, the irc
cannot
stay the way it is now or #liero will be momenarly spammed with hundreds of gliptic-gusanos'. So either smth to change the nick (and perhaps the channel to #gusanos), or disabling irc.
One more thing - meaby a message at the start of gusanos that it's still a development version and it still has bugs, isn't complete and all that stuff. If Gliptic and Basara are too lazy for smth better at least do a gusanos.bat file that writes this message, pauses and then switches to game.exe or smth like that. Perhaps at Liga Liero we'd host a modified version with this message in polish.

The exact release time was ment to be Dec. 24. Further more, since Gliptic has left, (dec 20), basara doesnt change the code anymore because only Gliptic can compile useful Windows versions of the game. Last i heard, basara will spend the last days preparing for the release with something idontknowwhat.
Thats what i heard anyway.
Maybe its a rumor.

The release will contain the default mod + ~50 liero levels + 3 gusanos levels made by me + dedicated server
The menu will be quite incomplete, it will work for connecting and hosting internet games which will be registered to the master server.

I ment the exact time, 2005 12 24 18:00 UTC+2 or so.
But the menu doesn't work after you load a map (or is just me?).
